The Omar K. Lightfoot Senior Recreation Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. Make new friends and join us for a variety of recreational activities. Annual memberships are available, or choose daily fees. For the adventurous, trips are planned three times per month, varying in destination and cost. Trips in the past have included the museum, the theater and other local attractions. A nominal fee may be charged for special events and field trips. For more information, please call (813) 506-6635.
The Senior Citizens Nutrition and Activity Program (SCNAP) serves a hot balanced lunch Monday through Friday for those over 60. To learn how you may register and qualify for this free lunch, and/or to reserve your lunch at least 1 day in advance, call 813-987-6182.
In addition to great daily activities such as ping-pong, card games and billiards, group activities also are a part of the daily program. Popular activities include senior-cise, chair aerobics, the arts and crafts club, Red Hat Club, and Bunco. Frequently, agency representatives come to explain and answer questions about services and issues that seniors care about.
From shuffleboard to making your own ice cream, getting manicures to singing with a group, or even using the shared computers, you will always find something enjoyable at our center.
The Parks and Recreation Division is happy to offer transportation to Temple Terrace resident seniors age 55 and over who cannot get out on their own. With 48-hour notice, transportation is available in the city's 11-passenger, wheelchair accessible senior van to local stores, doctors, beauty salons, and other local facilities. The fee for this service is $1.00 per round-trip.
