Temple Terrace is renowned for its plush landscape of trees, especially its many varieties of oaks. The city is replete with grand oaks, laurel oaks and water oaks, as well as many other species, including crape myrtle, southern magnolia, redbud, sweetgum, sabal palm, slash pine and bald cypress.
Tree City USA
In 2008, Temple Terrace was named a Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation. The designation is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
Temple Terrace met the standards to become a Tree City USA community by having a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
Communities that receive the Tree City USA distinction recognize that:
Trees promote healthier communities by filtering the air we breathe
Trees moderate climate, conserve water, and provide habitat for wildlife
Trees in urban areas reduce heat caused by pavement and buildings
Properly placed trees can increase property values
The city's Adopt-A-Tree Program offers FREE trees for Temple Terrace homeowners. We supply the trees, deliver them and plant them! All the homeowner has to do is water them.

Ongoing Efforts The city continues to plant trees to replenish its beautiful canopy. With donations and assistance from the Tampa Bay Reforestation and Environmental Effort (T.R.E.E., Inc), the city has planted hundreds of seedlings throughout the community.
The city also has sponsored seminars on how to properly plant and maintain trees, and has given away hundreds of seedlings to area homeowners including live oaks, bald cypress and magnolias. Just drive around the community and you will quickly see: Temple Terrace loves its trees. For more information, view our Tree Brochure.
