The Temple Terrace Preservation Society, in partnership with the city, plans to recreate the historic Temple Terrace Bat Tower, which stood on the banks of the Hillsborough River for more than 50 years.
Built in 1924, near what is now Florida College, the bat tower became an enduring symbol of the City of Temple Terrace. Now, the Preservation Society plans to recreate the iconic structure, built to the same specifications as the the original structure by Dr. Charles Campbell. The original bat tower burned down in 1979.
The new Temple Terrace Bat Tower will be built at Scout Park off West River Drive. It will provide educational opportunities and a vivid visual reminder of the rich environmental heritage of Temple Terrace.
